Hotel Paradox
Santa Cruz, California
The Project
Stepping off Santa Cruz's bustling Ocean St and through the front doors of Hotel Paradox is like stepping through a magical portal into a lush and quiet forest.
Arris worked with Interior Designers at ODADA to create a unique boutique experience of a modern luxury hotel set within the tranquil canopy of trees.
Upon entry, a real large fallen eucalyptus tree serves as the front desk where guests check in.
Throughout the lobby and main corridor, a long wood bookcase element serves as the central 'trunk' with groups of informal seating and meeting spaces branching from it. High on the walls, small plaster squirrels spy look on as a fun and whimsical forest element.
The hotel began as a Holiday Inn built in the 1960s. Up until the renovation, it split duties as student housing for UC Santa Cruz during the school year and functioned as a hotel during the summer months. Today, Hotel Paradox falls under the Marriott Autograph Collection and challenges the typical Santa Cruz hotel experience. The hotel offers visitors with a comfortable, convenient stay to break away from the ordinary.
